Brotherton Field
Sept 19th

While Grose rallies his brigade north of the Poe Field, Hazen sacrifices his brigade in the Brotherton Field to buy time.  Under attack from both Clayton and Bate, the brigade is defeated and retreats north.  The artillery leaving Brotherton Field makes its way safety to the Poe house.  Van Cleves division continues to retreat, not stopping until they reach the Dry Valley Road further to the west.

Harker continues his attack up the Lafayette Road.  The brigade splits, two regiments moving northeast into the woods on the east side of the road, and two regiments straight north.  The two regiments on the east side of the road push back Gregg and McNair.  Brigadier General Gregg is severely wounded, and command of the brigade is turned over to Col. Cyrus Sugg of the 50th Tennessee.  The two regiments heading north catch Fulton’s unsuspecting brigade from the flank and rear, and they retreat back across the road.
