Kelly's Division, Cavalry Corps
Brigadier General John H. Kelly |
|
We have a reasonably good guess as to the strength of the individual brigades present
in Kelly's Division. However the commander of the Cavalry Corps for the Army of Tennessee,
General Wheeler, specifically states that he only had 822 men in action at Pickett's Mill, and that
may or may not include men from Hume's command. In all likelihood, the other men of the brigades
were on detachments or picketing elsewhere. The total numbers are given here and on the brigade
pages, but overall, only 822 were available for action. If you subtract the horse holders who held
the mounts, you might have about 616 troopers on the firing line.
It is not clear which units from Hume's Division were present, therefore they have not been
included in the Order of Battle.
