Bibliography

            Cockrell and Young begin their advance.  They easily drive back the three companies of the 93^rd Illinois.  Either by orders or not, they retire all the way back to the Star Fort and occupy the ditch surrounding the redoubt as a makeshift fieldwork.  Cockrell then immediately assaults the forces occupying Rowett’s Redoubt.  After a short but sharp fight, they gain a foothold on the western face.

            The two companies of the 93^rd held in reserve near their headquarters building immediately advance to the support of the redoubt.  In addition, as soon as the fighting starts the commander of the 7^th Illinois recalls his three companies from the south to rejoin the regiment.

            Meanwhile, Sears begins his attack from the north.
