Maps of Allatoona Pass The Battle Then and Now |
10:20 AM
Cockrell and Young begin their advance. They easily drive back the three companies of the 93rd Illinois. Either by orders or not, they retire all the way back to the Star Fort and occupy the ditch surrounding the redoubt as a makeshift fieldwork. Cockrell then immediately assaults the forces occupying Rowett’s Redoubt. After a short but sharp fight, they gain a foothold on the western face. The two companies of the 93rd held in reserve near their headquarters building immediately advance to the support of the redoubt. In addition, as soon as the fighting starts the commander of the 7th Illinois recalls his three companies from the south to rejoin the regiment. Meanwhile, Sears begins his attack from the north.
