Bibliography

Confederate Order of Battle

ES- Effective Strength. Only those soldiers present actually shooting.  May or may not include officers.  To get the PFD with officers divide the EES by .93, a number both Livermore and Newton found to be remarkably consistent.  To add non-combatants multiply by 1.065, a formula devised by Newton.  It's still an estimate, especially for smaller units, but fairly accurate.

PFD- Present For Duty.  Everyone who marched with the unit into battle.  Includes officers and essential noncombatants such as musicians, stretcher bearers, etc.

Numbers in black were taken directly from primary sources AND column totals, whether the numbers in those colums were derived from primary sources or formulas.
Numbers in red were derived from a formula based on research.
